We asked Lucas a few questions about what it's like to work at Amphenol Network Solutions and further learned just how crucial his behind the scenes work is to our overall success!
How long have you worked at Amphenol Network Solutions and how does your role fit into the organization?
I've been with the company since 2013 and as a Lead Software Developer, I mostly help maintain and create software tools for our internal needs, manage data, and assist with other IT related needs.
What three words would you use to describe our culture?
Family-Feel, Agile, Motivated
How has your career developed since joining the company?
I started my software career as a developer that was handed requirements for projects. Since moving here, I have had to gather requirements and have a much better understanding of business needs than before. I enjoy the many facets of a business that I've been able to gain an understanding of over the years.
What has been your favorite project at Amphenol Network Solutions?
My favorite project would be developing a continuous integration, continuous deployment process for our software rollouts. It's still in progress, and probably always will be, but it's been a project that has involved learning a lot, training others, and once completed, it will make a huge changs in the testability, deployment speed, and reliability of our software process.
If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
Elon Musk. I say that mostly because of his ability to drive his dreams so well. I'm a fan of what he's done with solar energy, battery storage, self-driving vehicles, and SpaceX as a whole (see bucket list question for more info on this!). One of my favorite quotes from his is, "One of the most fundamental errors made in advanced development is to stick to a design even when it is very complicated and to not strive to delete parts and processes." I love how he tends to ignore the status quo and strives to see how things should be without focusing too much on how they are.
What is on your bucket list?
Going to Mars. I would seriously love the opportunity to go to Mars someday if it were safe enough. I don't foresee that being a thing, but the idea of us becoming a space-faring civilization in the future is extremely intriguing to me and I believe it could help us as a society to dream bigger and work on larger projects together.
