Made in the USA isn't just a catchphrase or a branding mark. It's often a statement that matters to consumers, and it reflects upon the quality of the product, especially WaveTrax, the Telect cable raceway solution.
This is the eighth in a Telect blog series, entitled The ABCs of Cable Management. Marketing Supervisor Angela Schneider reports on what it means for WaveTrax to be Made in the USA.
WaveTrax is a top-quality system for horizontal and vertical cable management on fiber optic networks. Its snap-together components — including troughs, elbows, cross and T sections, off-ramps and articulating links — reduce time and cost on installation and retrofits.
The Express T, which snaps on to troughs, makes quick directional changes easy, eliminating the need to saw into troughs, a practice that puts fiber optic cable at risk.
CableLinks were the industry's first articulating cable-management links. They let installers run cable over ducts, around corners and down drops from overhead to rack.
They're all proudly made in the USA, in Washington State, where Telect headquarters and manufacturing operations reside, and Idaho. The troughs are extruded in Tacoma and our molded pieces are built at mold houses all over the Spokane-Couer d'Alene region and the western side of the state.
But what does "made in the USA" mean to people at Telect? It's about more than just where the product is built.
We asked a few people around the office.
Wayne Williams, Telect CEO and President:
Every country wants things made locally; it's a matter of nationalistic pride. For us, it hits two primary areas. One, we have products we can build locally and promote to 50 states. It makes our employees proud to ship products to big customers like Verizon and AT&T and know they're a part of the larger picture.
Two, we support and believe in NAFTA. The majority of our products are sold inside the USA but we have products that aren't manufactured in the States. They're built in Mexico and distributed throughout the U.S., Latin America and Canada.
Erick Martinez, Business Development/Strategic Partner Alliances Manager, Caribbean and Latin America region:
It means quality. If it's American made, our CALA customers know they're getting something good.
Spencer Williams, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Product Strategy:
"Made in the USA" and "Made by Telect" are one in the same. We have quality standards and fundamentals for our products and those cross the border to our manufacturing plant in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Many of our products, including WaveTrax, are made and assembled 150 feet from our engineers. That includes the supply chain, so we're supporting the community with jobs — not just the jobs for our Telect employees but the jobs they support by spending their income at the local bar and grill, boutiques and gas stations.
Aaron Monheim, Product Manager for WaveTrax:
It means U.S. jobs to me. We aren't outsourcing offshore and bringing lower quality product to our customers. They can be assured they're getting top-quality cable-management products made right here at home to support their robust wireless networks.
